Vacation State of Mind

The past two months I've been so slack I've stunned even myself. Going from three jobs and grad school to complete freedom totally bogarted my sense of daily propriety. Since my last posting I would estimate my average "out of bed" time to be somewhere between 2-3pm and my "bedtime" between 4-5am. Good news though, this clinical insomniac has been sleeping more than 10 hours a night.

And let me tell you... I've never felt better. Doing nothing and loving it.

Well... ok, so I haven't been a COMPLETE slacker this summer. I am back to my daily running routine... I ran a 5k today as a matter of fact. I've also... watched a lot of movies... played a lot of video games... I co-bought a DS Lite. (One word: pimpin. If you've got $130 burning a hole in your pocket it comes highly recommended.)

I've been reading more too. Right now I'm reading A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking, and I've got Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Screwjack by Hunter S. Thompson on deck. Ummm... I go to the lake about once a week to ride around in the boat and eat cheeseburgers, and every other week I go to Ward's place and then to the Greensboro Grasshoppers game for Thirsty (dollar beer) Thursdays.

Oh yeah, and then there is the CPA. The four-headed bastard hydra of an exam. Being a slacker I didn't bother to check the requirements for taking it. I just assumed you sent in your cash and then scheduled a time. I was wrong. Again. Evidently you have to get authorized by some lame committee called the "State CPA Board." Chumps. So I had to scramble for a transcript and jump through a bunch of hoops. Did I mention that it costs $777 to sit for it? I'm broke now.

My goal was to finish it all in July/August but since I couldn't take the first part until this past Tuesday my new goal is to get three parts done and then do the last part in October before moving back up to NY. This is of course assuming I pass the damn thing... and considering the amount of drinking and other extra-curricular activities occupying my time, we shouldn't take that for granted.

So basically for the past two months I've done nothing. And it was everything I hoped it would be. Oh yeah, and Dad and I went to Maui for 12 days. You know it's a good trip when your bar bill is more than your hotel bill... and more than your food bill for that matter.

That last picture I posted is one from the trip. I'll post some more with a recap entry here in the next couple of days. For the first time since my sophomore year in highschool I'm unemployed and until I completely run out of cash... I'm freakin lovin it.

Maui
