No Touchy!
I've suddenly found myself with a bit of free time here and there during the day at the client I'm on. As such, I'm going to make an attempt to resume using this blog in the manner in which it was intended: a trite, sarcastic and usually boring social commentary. As such, today's topic: a story on cnn.com about an elementary school that mandates a strict no touching policy.
Evidently, these kids are punished for any kind of physical contact with other students including hugs or high-fives. This is absurd, kids already feel isolated enough in the adolescent years without a ban on high-fives. One kid was even threatened with disciplinary action for putting his arm around his girlfriend for 15 seconds. Wow. Look, all these kids want to do is engage in a series of legitimate fives...
The only way I could possibly endorse an adolescent school no touching policy is if there is an equally strict policy allowing unlimited touching between students and teachers. Were that the case, not only would I argue the policy vehemently, I would be heading back to school for my MA in teaching. Pedophilia rocks... thanks, Japan!
